Aguero’s Position Isn’t Guaranteed

LONDON: Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has warned Sergio Aguero that there is no room for sentiment when he selects a team for the Champions League final against Chelsea later this month.

Aguero announced he would leave City at the end of the season after 10 years with the Premier League champions.

The Argentine striker is City’s all -time goal record holder, yet he may not be given a glorious finish in an injury -ridden campaign that has left him appearing in just 18 games.

Aguero will miss tomorrow morning’s game against Brighton due to injury.

He could return for his final appearance at the Etihad Stadium against Everton on Sunday.

But Guardiola has refused to give assurances that the 32-year-old striker will play in City’s first Champions League final on May 29.

“I will be firm,” Guardiola said of the election. “I have to decide to win the match, so I have to do it.

“If Sergio is fit he will help us, that’s for sure, if he will help us score, he will play, but this is the Champions League final. I have to make a decision that gives us the best chance of winning the match.”
