Barcelona president Joan Laporta is confident Lionel Messi will sign a new contract to stay with the LaLiga giants.

Messi’s contract expires at the end of the season and the 33-year-old’s future with Barca remains uncertain despite interest from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Manchester City.

Laporta is determined to keep Messi who has spent the rest of his senior career at Camp Nou.

As Barca prepare for the Copa del Rey final with Athletic Bilbao, early tomorrow morning, Laporta had time to give his views on the winner of the six Ballon d’Or.

“Everything is going well,” he told Deportes Cuatro.

“I will do everything I can based on the ability of this club to keep it. That’s what we will do. Messi is motivated.

“He is an incredible player and I’m sure he also wants to continue to be at Barca.”

Messi emerged as the Golden Shoe trophy leader with 23 league goals and eight scoring opportunities in 28 LaLiga appearances this season.

In total, Messi has scored 29 goals throughout the 2020-21 campaign.
