AUGSBURG, Germany: Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to struggling side Augsburg early this morning without German midfielder Joshua Kimmich, who returned to quarantine after contact with someone confirmed positive for COVID-19.

Goals scored by Mads Pedersen and Andre Hahn put Augsburg 2-0 ahead although Robert Lewandowski celebrated his 14th goal in 12 league games, it was not enough to save Bayern.

“We deserved to be left behind in the first half,” Thomas Mueller told DAZN after his 600th appearance with Bayern ended in disappointment.

“We let go of possession of the ball, failed to control the cross well. It affected our confidence.”

The Bundesliga leaders have suffered just their second defeat in the league this season and third in all competitions while Augsburg are out of the bottom three.

Second -placed Borussia Dortmund can now reduce Bayern’s four -point lead as they await Stuttgart’s arrival today.
