MILAN: Gianluigi Buffon set a new record in Serie A as Juventus beat Torino 4-1 to extend the league’s top seven points to seven points.

Lazio’s closest rivals failed to score points in a 3-0 loss to AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The 42-year-old broke the record of 647 appearances he shared with AC Milan legend Paolo Maldini.

“Maybe … he certainly won’t break his scoring record,” Juventus manager Maurizio Sarri said of Buffon’s possible 35-game losing streak to match Alessandro Del Piero’s record for Juventus appearance.

Cristiano Ronaldo also contributed to the league’s first victory, becoming the first Juventus player to score 25 Serie A goals in a season after 59 years.

“We were a little rough at the beginning of the second half, but when the fatigue started to feel, our quality began to stand out,” Sarri said.

Juve was nearing its ninth consecutive Serie A title when Ibrahimovic scored one goal and set another for his first appearance with Milan since the league was suspended.

It is the 38-year-old Sweden’s fifth goal since joining Milan from the LA Galaxy in January.
