Can Liverpool, Manchester United Rise?

FootyBiteOctober 17, 2020

Liverpool was embarrassed by Aston Villa, 7-2 at Villa Park about two weeks ago, clearly still scarred in the hearts of Jurgen Klopp and his men. Similarly, millions of Liverpool supporters. Criticism and insults are received as if there is no end to this incumbent champion.

Ironically, the same fate befell the Reds’ rival Manchester United when they were ‘released’ by Tottenham Hotspur, 6-1 at Old Trafford. Like Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his team, supporters of The Red Devils are also stunned to this day.

This week, the two English Premier League (EPL) giants are back again after a break to give way to international action. And like their hardcore supporters, Klopp and Solskjaer have high hopes, there will be a revival.

Perhaps coincidentally, the first action of the EPL this week will involve Liverpool’s action against Everton. The Merseyside neighbors fight will take place at Goodison Park.

Everton are the most envied team at the moment when they dominate the league chart with a collection of 12 points as a result of winning four games without losing or drawing. The final victory beat Brighton, 4-2 while the Reds were in fifth place with nine points.

With such an incredible performance, what can we expect from tonight’s action? Intense. Yes, this Merseyside neighbor rivalry is usually very much awaited by both teams.

According to past records, Carlo Ancelotti’s team has never won against their neighbors in the last 22 games with the last time in October 2010. Last season, when the Reds celebrated the league title after 30 years of humiliation, Everton only finished the competition at 12th place.

But the atmosphere now looks different. In Ancelotti’s hands, The Toffees’ squad is already showing positive change. The team not only managed to occupy the top spot in the league, but also managed to form another young England striker, Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

So far, this player has scored nine goals in six games with Everton as well as another with England, last week in the first action. With the presence of former Real Madrid star James Rodriguez, their coupling is expected to continue to shine.

At the Liverpool camp, this two-week break should give Klopp a chance to improve his weakness to return to showing his fangs. With Virgil van Dijk no longer considered invulnerable, the fort of The Reds should be better tonight.

Like Liverpool, United who are severely criticized, including their former legend, should use the opportunity of action early tomorrow morning against Newcastle United to show the defeat to Spurs is a useful lesson for them. The presence of former PSG star Cavani may bring some light.

Other action saw Manchester City welcome Arsenal, with both teams performing differently after three and four games while Chelsea welcoming Southampton with Frank Lampard should make no mistake. Enjoy watching.
