LONDON: Chelsea striker Kai Havertz will go through a process of isolation after being tested positive for COVID-19.

Tests against Havertz were revealed after the German was not included in the Chelsea squad for the Champions League clash against Rennes at Stamford Bridge.

“Frank Lampard confirmed Kai Havertz tested positive for COVID-19,” a statement on the Chelsea website said.

“As a result, the player is currently undergoing a period of isolation and will not be involved in the Champions League match against Rennes.”

Havertz has been going through a difficult period at Chelsea since moving from Bayer Leverkusen at the end of the season.

The 21-year-old scored just one goal in the English Premier League and struggled to get his best performance after being used in various positions by Lampard.
