Clash Between Two Giants, Manchester City And Liverpool

FootyBiteNovember 7, 2020

This week the focus of the English Premier League (EPL) will definitely be on the Etihad Stadium to see the clash between the two giants, Manchester City and the incumbent, Liverpool.

City coached by Pep Guardiola welcomed the Reds’ visit to the 10th position in the league as a result of a 11-point set, five points behind Liverpool, who still stood tall, but still had one action in hand.

Both teams have started showing their fangs over the past few weeks with some convincing victories thus showing determination to win the championship this season.

Even so, City struggled last week to beat Sheffield 1-0, before rising to beat Olympiakos, 3-0 in the Champions League. Their joy doubled, when the previously injured Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus returned to the team.

He scored a goal in the action and is expected to be listed by Pep Guardiola in the starting lineup at midnight tomorrow after the absence of Sergio Aguero due to injury while Benjamin Mendy and Fernandinho are also expected to be sidelined due to injury.

Liverpool, who are still fresh with the success of beating Italian club Atalanta, 5-0 in the Champions League on Wednesday, certainly can not wait to disappoint City supporters at the Etihad. Last week they beat West Ham 2-1 to top the EPL standings.

The Reds’ new star, Diogo Jota, is also looking forward to showcasing his style at Anfield after posting a hat-trick on Atalanta. For that he hopes to be listed by Jurgen Klopp in the starting line-up for this big action.

Liverpool had previously risked a combination of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Firmino to rip the opponent’s goal, but the presence of Jota would definitely give Klopp an extra option. If Jota is listed, Firmino will definitely be left out after being seen to fail to stand out when he only scored one goal out of 10 games for all competitions.

Meanwhile, Fabio, Virgil van Dijk and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are set aside for this big action while the positions of Joel Matip, Thiago Alcantara, Naby Keita and Konstantinos Tsimikas are still in doubt.

Scanning in the last six meetings, saw both teams only tied once without a goal. City won four of those clashes and have never lost to The Reds since 2015 at home.

The Citizens won the final 4-0 last July, but at that time Liverpool were already league champions. These three points at the Etihad are invaluable for both teams as they may be the starting point towards winning the league title this season. So which team will these three points belong to?

Meanwhile, Manchester United, who suffered two consecutive defeats – Arsenal (0-1) and Istanbul Basaksehir (1-2) will travel to Goodison Park against Everton, with the fate of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer expected. – Enjoy watching.
