LONDON: Kevin De Bruyne became the third player to win the English Professional Footballers Association (PFA) Player of the Year award for two consecutive seasons.

The Belgian midfielder is following in the footsteps of Thierry Henry and Cristiano Ronaldo who have also won awards for two seasons in a row.

De Bruyne was a milestone in City’s success in winning three Premier League titles in four years and four consecutive League Cup titles.

The 29-year-old also led City to their first Champions League final, where he had to be sent off early in the second half due to injury.

His absence was felt in City’s 1-0 defeat to Premier League rivals Chelsea.

“You want to win all the trophies with the team and if you win a trophy like this, it’s probably the most important thing as an individual in the league,” De Bruyne said.

De Bruyne has scored 10 goals and made 18 assists in 40 appearances in all competitions for City this season.

Teammate Phil Foden won the PFA’s Best Young Player award while Ruben Dias was named the Football Writers Association (PWA) best player last month.
