PARIS: Bruno Fernandes exploded twice as Manchester United won 4-0 over Real Sociedad in the first leg of the last 32 of the Europa League just now while Gareth Bale excelled at Tottenham in a 4-1 win over Austrian club Wolfsberg.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, United’s squad looks set to reach the last 16 with four goals at home for the second match after a meeting held in Turin due to COVID-19.

“We know 4-0 is a good result but we need to be vigilant with what they can do,” Fernandes told BT Sport. “My goal is to score as many goals as possible, that’s what I do. The goal is to win a trophy.”

The Premier League team took the lead in the 27th minute when Fernandes penalized a defensive error by completing a Marcus Rashford pass.

Solskjaer’s side doubled the lead 12 minutes into the second half when Fernandes blasted his 21st goal of the season in all competitions after Daniel James failed to control Rashford’s pass.

The network was initially said to be offside before viewing VAR footage.

United continued to dominate Sociedad and finally Rashford himself scored in the 65th minute through a quick counter-attack started by goalkeeper Dean Henderson.

The clash ended when James escaped and exploded into the corner of the net at the end of the rivalry.
