LONDON: Frank Lampard has called on the English Premier League to cancel Saturday afternoon’s game where the tired Chelsea players will face Newcastle tomorrow.

Lampard’s men who have just returned from international competition with their respective national teams will go down to play at 12.30 noon tomorrow.

For Lampard it does not make sense for the Premier League and the broadcaster continues to insist on a match at that time as it will put pressure on the key players.

This issue put more pressure on the Chelsea operator when some of his milestones just arrived in England yesterday after playing for their respective countries.

They only have a short break before heading to St James’ Park tomorrow and Lampard fears it will affect the fitness of his men.

“The majority of our squad has just returned. They will fly to Newcastle, return, fly to Rennes on Tuesday and return.

“Thiago Silva has just landed. He may not be going to Newcastle because of the distance he has traveled and the inconvenient times.

“When you look at the schedule, the broadcaster has never had so many slots. How important is it for the 12.30 slot to continue to be held?

“It’s not the best way for players to face Premier League matches.

“Player injuries are increasing in the league, the number is there if the Premier League wants to see it.

“Pre-season zero, the schedule is getting tighter and if we want to deal with it in the best way and take care of the players, change the time to 12.30,” Lampard said.
