LONDON: Robert Lewandowski slammed Lionel Messi’s ’empty chat’ which previously stated he should have won the Ballon d’Or award for 2020.

Last week, Messi won the award for the seventh time after a year the award was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic which was also the best year for the Bayern Munich striker.

“Robert, you deserve the Ballon d’Or. Everyone agrees to say that this award should have been yours last year.

“I hope France Football will give you the Ballon d’Or for 2020. We believe you deserve to win it and you deserve to have (the Ballon d’Or) at home,” Messi said.

Despite congratulating Messi, the Polish striker admitted that he was disappointed not to get the award and managed to slap Messi.

“I’m sad. I can’t deny it. I can’t say I’m happy.

“Competing great with Messi, of course I respect the way he plays and what he has achieved over the years.

“With the fact that I’m able to keep up with it, it shows how far a level I’m capable of reaching.

“But I’m not excited to get the award for 2020.

“I’d rather it (Messi’s statement about the Ballon d’Or 2020) be more sincere and considerate than a great player and not just empty talk,” Lewandowski said.
