LONDON: Virgil van Dijk insists he and his teammates should be held responsible for the embarrassing defeat after being beaten by Aston Villa 7-2 early this morning.

In fact, the Liverpool captain wanted his teammates to make the defeat a lesson and immediately recover from the ‘nightmare’.

Jurgen Klopp’s men stunned Aston Villa, trailing 4-1 in the first half after allowing Ollie Watkins to score a hat-trick.

Thus, the defending champions need to bounce back quickly for a clash with rivals and league leaders Everton – a team run by Carlo Ancelotti and have a 100 per cent victory record after four matches on October 17.

“If we look at ourselves, it’s like one of those performances where we weren’t so 100 percent fit from start to finish,” Van Dijk said.

“What is clear is that the goals that have been missed need to be addressed better. In addition, the opportunities we have – because we get a lot of opportunities – we also need to finish them.

“Overall, we are all very disappointed. We should not have lost with such figures and now we have to get back together and not allow it to happen again.

“The level of performance between the previous games against Arsenal for the league and today is too different. Each of us, should take this responsibility.
