LONDON: Romelu Lukaku says comparing him to Manchester United legend Cristiano Ronaldo is a futile job.

The Chelsea striker labeled the 36 -year -old Portuguese star as one of the three best players in history when he broke the men’s international scoring record.

Ronaldo blasted 111 goals for Portugal after scoring twice in a 2-1 win over Ireland in a World Cup qualifier to overtake Iranian legend Ali Daei’s record of 109 goals.

Lukaku just scored his 65th and 66th goals for Belgium when they beat Estonia 5-2 last Thursday.

The 28 -year -old urged fans not to compare him to the five -time Ballon d’Or winner after observers said he had a chance to overtake Ronaldo’s record.

“Don’t ever compare me to Cristiano Ronaldo, don’t ever.

“I won’t state the actual position but he’s in the top three rankings.

“What he has achieved today for players of my generation is something extraordinary,” Lukaku said during a press conference ahead of the match against the Czech Republic that will give him his 100th cap.

Lukaku and Ronaldo return to the English Premier League this season from Serie A.
