LONDON: Manchester United thrashed Leeds 6-2 to move up to third place in the English Premier League.

The first league match in 16 years between United and Leeds ended with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad once again showing their fangs at Old Trafford.

United, who started slowly this season, are now collecting 26 points – five behind Liverpool leaders and playing less than one game.

They are one point behind Leicester, who beat Spurs 2-0.

United have won all six Premier League matches at home but have only won once at home before.

Scott McTominay scored the fastest two goals in Premier League history, putting his side 2-0 ahead in just three minutes.

Marcelo Bielsa’s open play paid off when Leeds trailed 4-0 in the 37th minute, with Bruno Fernandes and Victor Lindelof also finding the target.

Liam Cooper closed the gap for Leeds at the end of the first half but United returned to violence after the break.

Daniel James made it 5-1 and Fernandes scored his second goal from the penalty spot before Stuart Dallas added a Leeds goal.

“Imagine there are 75,000 spectators here, it will definitely make history as the greatest performance against Leeds.

“We have not reached the middle. League standings are not something we pursue.

“We are looking at team improvement. Now we are fitter and stronger. Fans want to see that,” Solskjaer said.
