LEEDS, United Kingdom: Ralf Rangnick said Manchester United’s resurgence after once again squandering a first-half advantage against Leeds before a 4-2 win was the “best response” to reports saying there were problems in the dressing room.
Reports saying Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to replace Harry Maguire as United captain for the remainder of the season were deemed “silly” by Rangnick last week.
Maguire responded with an opening goal in the 34th minute before Bruno Fernandes added a second late in the first half.
United were once again punished for a slow start to the second half when goals from Rodrigo and substitute Raphinha equalized for Leeds.
This time United bounced back and found the winning goal when Fred blasted 20 minutes before the end and Anthony Elanga confirmed a full three points shortly thereafter.
“Today is important not just because we won the match but the way we responded. It’s the best answer a team can give,” Rangnick said.
“A match like today can only be won as a team.”
