PARIS: Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino is hoping Neymar will return to the squad for tomorrow’s Champions League clash against Real Madrid.
The Brazilian star has not played since the end of November, when he was carried off with an ankle injury during the 3-1 win over Saint-Etienne.
However he returned to full training last week and is expected to be fully fit ahead of the meeting with the Spanish giants.
After PSG’s 1-0 win over Rennes on Friday, Pochettino said Neymar had a chance to be listed in the European action.
“You have to be careful with expectations because they are not reality. Everyone creates their own expectations. Expectations are not supported by science and reality is something different.
“It could happen. Evolution is very good and he might be in the squad. That’s my hope because he’s an important player for us,” Pochettino said.
PSG host Real Madrid at the Parc des Princes in the first leg of the Group 16 of the Champions League before a rematch at the Bernabeu three weeks later.
Since Neymar’s absence for the past two months, Pochettino’s side have never lost in Ligue 1 and widened the gap at the top of the league to 16 points, but were eliminated from the Coupe de France by Nice.
