LONDON: Manchester United legend Paul Scholes says goalkeeper David De Gea has become a coward after being conceded for the third time by RB Leipzig.

United were eliminated by the Bundesliga club from the Champions League after a 3-2 defeat to Leipzig in Germany.

It puts pressure on United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

According to Scholes, De Gea was the cause of his team’s defeat especially after Justin Kluivert scored Leipzig’s third goal.

“David De Gea … he’s a coward. He’s afraid of getting hurt. He shouldn’t be crossing in a box like that. As a goalkeeper, you have to get out, make yourself as big as possible.

“Your face may have been hit, you may have been injured, but he turned his body away.

“He actually makes himself as small as possible. For an experienced goalkeeper, it is a crime,” Scholes said.

The third goal made it difficult for United to equalize, where a draw was enough to take them to the knockout stages.

Bruno Fernandes completed the 80th minute penalty and Paul Pogba scored United’s second goal two minutes later.
