TRNAVA, Slovakia: Scotland failed to continue their excellent pace of qualifying for the main tournament for the first time in 22 years after losing 0-1 to Slovakia last night.

It was the first defeat for Steve Clarke’s squad in 10 games.

Jan Gregus’ goal in the 32nd minute was the separator in the meeting between the two teams that qualified for Euro 2020 with Scotland failing to take advantage of some of the opportunities created to score.

The first defeat in 13 months saw Scotland have to wait to confirm its top spot in Group B2 of the UEFA Nations League.

They can confirm their place as the group champion if they win when they visit Israel, early this Thursday morning.

“I think the players are doing well, we just wasted some opportunities to score goals.

“We should have got better results in the match. We had a chance to score but failed to finish. I am satisfied with the team’s performance without the desired results,” Clarke said.
