LONDON: Watford captain Troy Deeney and Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe have accepted responsibility for being knocked out of the Premier League while Aston Villa manager Dean Smith can plan a celebration after successfully evading early this morning.

Deeney’s penalty was not enough to prevent Watford from losing 3-2 to Arsenal as the Hornets’ decision to sack three managers in a season, including Nigel Pearson, left with two games to spare.

“This is an overview of our season,” Deeney told Sky Sports. “I will answer on social media but the reality is that some will lose their jobs because we are not good enough.

“Overall from top to bottom will go through audits and evaluations. Not just us.

“We can’t say we did it right because we failed. The big thing is for the fans and the people at the club because they will be here longer than the players.”

Bournemouth, meanwhile, won 3-1 at Everton but the damage was done when the Cherries’ squad ended five years in the Premier League.

Howe insists he is responsible for the removal of Bournemouth over his players.

“It hurts. I tried to unite it. I am very sad for all the club supporters.”
