The seventh Ballon d’Or AWARD that Argentina and Barcelona star Lionel Messi should have ‘robbed’ of if guided by match rating statistics.

The world-famous award ceremony for the best male footballer was canceled for the first time in 64 years after the Covid-19 pandemic disrupted the 2019-20 season.

Certainly it is bad news for Messi who is on the right track to grab the title from his challenger, Cristiano Ronaldo.

According to match ratings from WhoScored, Messi is the top performer in the top five leagues in Europe with a difference of several points compared to other players.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo failed to break through the top three list.

The WhoScored rating found Messi in the top spot with 8.71 out of 10 points followed by PSG star Kylian Mbappe 8.14, Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski in third place with 8.13 points.

From the list of the top 10 players in Europe is Ronaldo in fourth place with 7.91 points followed by Kevin De Bruyne (Man City) 7.88, Angle Di Maria (PSG) 7.75, Dimitri Payet (Marseille) 7.73, Josip Ilicic (Atalanta) 7.65, Jadon Sancho ( Dortmund) 7.64 and Timo Werner (RB Leipzig) 7.6 points.

The Ballon d’Or award will not be awarded this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, organizers feel it is unfair to cast the best player votes when some major leagues are canceled earlier.
