LONDON: David Luiz responded to criticism of him with an excellent performance at Arsenal’s fort in a 2-0 win over Manchester City.

The Brazilian central defender was heavily criticized after his appearance against Pep Guardiola’s City in the English Premier League last month, allowing Raheem Sterling to open the scoring before he was sent off for fouling Riyad Mahrez.

When Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang emerged as the hero by scoring both goals to bring Arsenal to the FA Cup final, Luiz worked hard to ensure Arsenal’s goal was not missed, especially Sterling’s successful attempt.

“A lot of criticism against me, I think you can say that. That’s part of football.

“Every day you will defend your team, and others will support other teams.

“I work hard every day after my mistakes. I accept the mistake, I am mature enough to understand it. I am also humble enough to work harder for the team.

“We have a final to go through this season. We will try to win the title for the club because this club, as I often say, has the right to shine again,” Luiz said.
