BERLIN: Kai Havertz left the German camp today to fly to London to complete the transfer from Bayer Leverkusen to Premier League club Chelsea with a reported fee of around 100 million euros.

Ahead of the National League match early Monday morning against Switzerland, German head coach Joachim Loew allowed the 21-year-old to leave the camp to settle the matter.

“Of course, we would have liked him to have paid more attention to the national team, but we also realized it was important for Bayer Leverkusen and Kai,” German team director Oliver Bierhoff told the German FA website.

Havertz flew to London, reportedly undergoing medical tests with Chelsea after being placed on the bench during a 1-1 draw against Spain in Stuttgart.

Leverkusen head coach Peter Bosz confirmed Monday that they are expected to lose the striker midfielder.

Leverkusen sports director Rudi Voeller said they were “grateful” to Loew when “Kai can now resolve the matter, with our support, in London.”
