LONDON: Chelsea are close to breaking their transfer record when they sign Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen for 90 million pounds.

The 21-year-old midfielder has been Frank Lampard’s number one target for the transfer window this summer and his move to Stamford Bridge will come true after a number of talks.

The Blues reached an agreement with Leverkusen to pay 72 million pounds which will increase to 90 million pounds through an additional clause and a paper on the transfer will be completed this week.

Havertz is expected to fly to London in the near future to sign a five-year contract.

Chelsea have been hunting for the German star for the past few months and have now secured his services.

The negotiations overcame the value paid by The Blues to get goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga in 2018 worth 72 million pounds.

The midfielder is one of the rising young stars in Europe and his entry will definitely help Lampard strengthen his preparations for the new season.
