Earlier, Monaco beat Strasbourg 3-2 after two players were sent off while Lille moved up to second after a 2-0 win over Nantes.

PSG, who opened the season with two defeats, won 2-0 and are now seventh, two points behind league leaders Rennes.

“It’s important for the striker to score,” Icardi said after blasting for the first time since February.

“Today we are less prominent to end the match earlier, but we are happy with this result.”

For the first time since the French Cup final on July 24, PSG started the competition with the ‘Fantastic Four’ involving Kylian Mbappe, Neymar, Angel di Maria and Icardi.
