LISBON: After beating Jose Mourinho and Diego Simeone in the Champions League, RB Leipzig boss Julian Nagelsmann will now face Paris Saint-Germain and Thomas Tuchel, who helped spark his coaching career 12 years ago, in the semi-finals early Wednesday morning.

The 33-year-old is the youngest coach to advance to the last four of the Champions League, showing his reputation as Germany’s latest tactician at Leipzig’s first knockout stage.

Nagelsmann overtook Simeone’s Atletico Madrid 2-1 early on Friday morning after recording a great result in defeating Mourinho’s side, Tottenham – who were also runners-up last year with home wins and opponents in the last 16.

Next up for them is PSG coached by German operator Tuchel, where Nagelsmann took the first step in coaching with the Augsburg reserve team in 2008 after a knee injury forced him to retire at just 20 years old.

“Of course I was his player, but that was a long time ago,” said Nagelsmann, who played on center defense as a teenager.

“I now work every day just like him.”

As his former Hoffenheim club coach, Nagelsmann lost twice and drew once against Tuchel, who then held Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga between 2016 and 2017.

“The match against him is always interesting, because he always has a good idea about football,” Nagelsmann said.

“I always played (as a coach) against him (Tuchel) but rarely won. That should change now,” he said.
