MADRID: Real Madrid were almost embarrassed once again by Alcoyano but managed to score two late goals for a 3-1 victory in the last 32 of the Spanish King’s Cup.

Real Madrid returned to the El Collao Stadium a full year after being stunned 2-1 by the third division club, and once again took the lead through Eder Militao, but Dani Vega returned to equalize.

Real came back in front in the 76th minute when Marco Asensio’s shot hit Alcoyano’s Raul Gonzalez and two minutes later, substitute Isco capitalized on an error by two Alcoyano defenders for the third goal.

However, the second goal was credited to Asensio while the third goal was considered an own goal because it hit Alcoyano goalkeeper Jose Juan.

“Matches like this are the toughest and last year we learned a lesson on how things can get worse in situations like this.

“We worked hard. We fought hard, it wasn’t a great game from us but we worked hard,” said Madrid player Marcelo.

Real went down without some key milestones such as Vinicius Jr, Ferland Mendy, Thibaut Courtois, Luka Modric and Karim Benzema.
